Tanjak Mosque, New Icon of Batam Tourism, Located at Hang Nadim Airport

Construction of the tanjak mosque begins in 2021 to 2022

Its strategic location in the Hang Nadim International Airport area also makes the Tanjak Mosque an attraction for local and foreign tourists.

Batam Mayor and Head of BP Batam Muhammad Rudi also expressed his appreciation for the good cooperation with various stakeholders who provided extraordinary support, so that the construction of the Tanjak Mosque could be completed on time.

With a lower floor area of 1,963 m2 and a mezzanine floor of 460 m2, the Tanjak Mosque can accommodate 1,250 worshipers.

1,000 worshippers are on the ground floor and 250 worshippers are on the mezzanine floor.

The architecture of the Tanjak Mosque is different from the usual ones in that it strengthens local wisdom, Malay culture where Tanjak is a traditional Malay headdress.

Located on an area of 15,100 m2 and a total building area of 4,983 m2, the Tanwirun Naja Mosque is expected to be a means of worship for the people of Batam as well as a new icon of religious tourism in Batam City.

This mosque means to be a light of salvation.

Tanjak Mosque as a place of worship, a means of increasing faith and devotion that will encourage aqidah based on the Qur’an and sunnah.

Head of BP Batam Muhammad Rudi, said the mosque that stands majestically is a tanjak-shaped mosque.

“The initial idea of this mosque shape is closely related to regional culture, where tanjak is one of the typical men’s head coverings in the Land of Malay, as well as in Batam,” said Muhammad Rudi.

He added that in deciding to build this mosque, his party had sought
advice and input from scholars and community leaders in Batam.

This mosque is prepared to become one of the icons of Batam City and will later become one of Batam’s tourist destinations.

Rudi also mentioned that the Tanwirun Naja Mosque, commonly abbreviated as the Tanjak Mosque, came from the proposal of the Leadership Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Batam City, which means ‘safety illuminator’.
