Goddess Kwan Im Statue KTM Resort, Batam, the Tallest in Indonesia, Never Lack of Pilgrims
The statue of Goddess Kwan Im, is a compassionate incarnation of Buddha.
Goddess Kwan Im is also referred to as Nam Hai Wan Se Im, known as Bodhi Satva Avalokitesvara, a hand that symbolizes the loving-kindness of god according to Buddhist beliefs.
The statue of Goddess Kwan Im as a place of Buddhist worship. It is usually held every 2nd, 6th and 9th month of the Chinese calendar. However, besides functioning as a place of worship, this statue also attracts tourists.
Visitors on certain days are dominated by foreign tourists. Those who come come from abroad such as Singapore, Malaysia, China and other countries. Sometimes the visitors participate in giving offerings such as apples, mandarin oranges, cakes and blessing water which are expected to have an impact on the smoothness of family sustenance.
There are also those who enjoy throwing coins at the feet of the obedient Dwi Kwan Im. According to belief, this is so that their fortune will be launched. Asan, a Chinese descendant of Batam, often comes to KTM Resort to relax and pray.
The statue of Dewi Kwan Im was recorded in the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI), November 5, 2008 as the tallest statue of Dewi Kwan Im in Indonesia.
The statue is 22.37 meters high and weighs 112 tons.
The founder of this statue is Mr. Toh Tiat Meng, a citizen of Singapore.
